in 2023, the danish supreme court ruled in favour of anne black in a landmark case concerning the copying of original designs — concluding a seven-year legal dispute and setting new standards for intellectual property protection within danish craft and design. the case was backed by akademikerne and dansk industri, recognising its significance for the broader design community.

anne black is featured in design school kolding — 50 years, 50 voices of design, a publication presenting 50 selected contributors to danish design across five decades of graduates.
public and cultural context
in 2009, queen margrethe II and crown princess mary visited the anne black workshop in bat trang, vietnam, during a state visit — recognising a craft collaboration built on trust, skill, and seven generations of ceramic tradition with the hang family.
milestones
1996 — anne graduates from the danish design school (now the royal danish academy) and begins creating porcelain in collective workshops across copenhagen.
1998 — anne black founded.
2005 — anne opens her own workshop on vesterbro, copenhagen. the same year, she co-founds a ceramic workshop with artisans and the hang family in bat trang, vietnam — supported by danida. a collaboration built on trust, skill, and friendship that continues to this day. the hang family has produced ceramics for seven generations.
2009 — queen margrethe II and crown princess mary visit the workshop in bat trang during a state visit to vietnam.
2010 — wins the bolig magasinet design award as "årets kunsthåndværker" (craftsman of the year). the jury: "anne creates craft at eye level with the user. her products take everyday life as their starting point. with simple means, her design tells poetic stories."
2012 — charity exhibition at omotesando hills, tokyo — handmade collages auctioned to support japan earthquake and tsunami relief.
2013 — opens first flagship store at gl. kongevej 117, copenhagen. featured in bolig magasinet's "hjemme hos" — an 8-page portrait calling anne "danmarks keramiker-queen." included in kraks blå bog (the danish biographical encyclopedia) alongside notable danes.
2016 — limited edition collection created for isetan, tokyo. collaboration with akira minagawa, founder of japanese fashion brand minä perhonen — co-created objects shown in copenhagen and tokyo under the title "forest in the ocean."
2017 — portrayed in "50 years – 50 voices of design" — designskolen kolding's anniversary book celebrating 50 designers who have shaped the profession.
2023 — højesteret (the danish supreme court) rules in favour of anne black in a landmark design rights case — concluding a seven-year dispute. the ruling sets new standards for IP protection of danish design.
2024 — receives the kh-prisen from statens kunstfond (the danish arts foundation) together with kasper würtz — for contribution to securing recognition of artisans' and designers' intellectual property rights.
2026 — moves to new flagship store at tullinsgade, Copenhagen.
